SAMS Publishing: “Becoming A Computer Artist”

SAMS Publishing contracted internationally-acclaimed computer artist Chad Little to develop “Becoming A Computer Artist” (“BACA”), a educational book & companion CD-ROM.

The purpose of BACA was to present the history, technology, key terms, concepts, tools and creative approaches of computer graphics, for beginners.

Jon was retained by Chad to research, ghostwrite and design major components of BACA, including the following (PDFs below):

  • “The History of Computer Graphics” – A 5,800-word script, presenting the fascinating lineage of key thinkers from mathematics, science, technology, business and the arts who contributed to advancing computer graphics.

  • “Fundamentals of Computer Graphics” – A 7,250-word script, detailing in words and visualizations all major aspects of computer graphics technology, from both functional and efficiency perspectives.
    .
  • “Copyright Basics” – A 2,100-word text presenting a detailed primer for new computer artists on the laws pertaining to copyright, intellectual property, work-for-hire, authorship, manipulation, and use of original works.

Result: Jon’s performance on BACA resulted in Chad extending a job offer at his digital media firm, Tracer Design.
Jon accepted, and became the firm’s Creative Director – Multimedia Services.
